VALUE: COMMUNITY
"If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men" (Romans 12:18).
VISION
The Restoration Team exists to enable all people at East Lake to resolve conflict and sin issues biblically and to be restored to a right relationship with God and man.
Reality is that conflict is inevitable because we face frustrations every day in the family, the neighborhood, the workplace and even the church. Where there are people, there will be conflict, and when we respond to conflict "naturally", we can expect damage - damage to ourselves, to others, and to our Christian witness. The "natural" response to conflict is a sinful response.
There is hope, however. The GOSPEL is the GOOD NEWS that God has made peace with us through Jesus Christ, so we can now have peace with others. Peacemakers can turn conflict into an opportunity to strengthen relationships, preserve valuable resources, and show the love and power of Christ.
A CULTURE OF PEACE AT EAST LAKE
One of the Restoration Team’s roles is to assist in building a culture of peace among the partners and regular attendees at East Lake by equipping them to resolve conflict biblically, thus becoming peacemakers. Because this ministry requires certain skills and tools that don’t typically just "come naturally," the team is specifically trained in biblical peacemaking. We use these skills in two areas.
- Teaching – We help to "embed" biblical peacemaking into the life of East Lake by ongoing teaching. Instruction is provided through Sunday morning and Oasis services, training programs for staff and leadership personnel, and curriculum for small groups.
- Assisting – Assistance can be as informal as a conversation over a cup of coffee with a small group or ministry friend or someone from The Restoration Team. At other times, the conversation may include several individuals and be more formal. Regardless of who or how many are present, the approach is with an attitude of love and humility and the goal is always to achieve reconciliation in a God-glorifying way.
