What is a small group?
A Small Group is a gathering of 8-14 people who meet 2-4 times a month to share, study, and support one another. A trained leader leads each group. An average group lasts for an hour and a half and many groups share a meal or light snacks together.
How important are Small Groups?
Here at East Lake, Small Groups are where everything happens. Real ministry takes place in a small group and its where the Bible comes alive. There is not enough time on a Sunday morning and not enough people on staff to meet everyones needs. Those who are in a small group are able to share lifes struggles and challenges and have their needs met by others in their group. We believe everyone should experience positive life change and that happens best in a small group.
When and where do they meet?
Small Groups meet on various nights of the week in homes throughout the Richland/Lexington County area. For specific days and times, go to the Find a Group page.
What will we study?
Each Small Group is free to choose what they study. Most studies are chosen by the group to meet particular needs within the group. Some groups will use curriculum while others may use the discussion questions based on the Sunday message.
What does it cost?
The possible cost would be curriculum for the small group study. We ask that you be committed to attending the group each week and committed to those in your group. Life gets busy and things come up and there will be times when you have to miss. But in order to get the most out of your group, it is important to make an effort to be there whenever possible.
What about childcare?
Each small group decides how they want to handle childcare. It is recommended that groups find some sort of childcare to allow those in the group to have the best experience. Some groups chip in to pay a sitter while others find childcare on their own.
How do I get connected with a group?
There are a couple ways to get connected with a Small Group. One option is to browse the list of small groups on the website and follow the instructions found there. Another option is to check the Small Groups box on your connection card. Someone will give you a call and help you find the right group for you.
